"Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy. She'll beat you if she's able..."

"Desperado," by the Eagles.

I was looking forward to taking some nice pictures today, because the forecast was for overcast skies in the afternoon... Apparently, the clouds missed my house. Not that I'm complaining, really; it's just really hard for someone who's using the shot timer on their camera and who has little to no actual talent taking pictures to take pictures of themselves. Not that that's me... No... Of course not.

I started inside, because when I originally went out, it was too early to be outside. And then, when I got home and slipped into what I had planned on wearing tonight, the sun started to kill the photos. So, I went back inside. I know, it's so complicated.

sweater, american eagle; belt, charlotte russe; skirt, forever 21; bag, garage sale; socks, unknown; shoes, kohl's (seen here).

I realize now that the socks don't look as cute in pictures as they do in person... Oops.

And here's what I'm wearing tonight, for dinner out with my friends.
dress, american eagle; metallic tank (worn underneath), kirra, pacsun; sweater, forever 21; shoes, jessica simpson, nordstrom; pearl necklace, unknown; gold clutch, garage sale.

I'm mostly just excited to be out of the house. I mean, I've been out a few times (although I'm not sure that two different, unplanned orthodontist trips count) but nothing quite so... exciting.

Back to school shopping? Already?

This is one of those "I couldn't help myself things." I'm just obsessed with vintage-y looking things, small prints, and menswear-inspired bottoms. That's totally how I plan on going back to school.

Check out some of my favorite pieces.

left: topshop, swallow print shorts, $65.00.
right: topshop, bow button mini skirt, $65.00.
top: charlotte russe, mens-inspired crop pants, $26.50.
bottom: charlotte russe, mens-inspired shorts, $22.50.
charlotte russe, short sleeve all-over lace top, $15 or 2 for $20.

top: charlotte russe, drape front floral jacket, $34.00.
bottom: charlotte russe, ribbon detail sheer lace top, $19.00.

top: urban outfitters, knt by kova & t striped blouse, $68.00.
bottom: urban outfitters, cooperative peter pan bow blouse, $54.00.

Oh, I can't wait until September, when the weather changes in lovely Seattle and I can wear my flat boots and jeans and scarves and warm jackets. I love layering. I don't know how to dress for warm weather at all.

I look forward to back-to-school shopping. You've really no idea.

It's still July and I'm already thinking about Homecoming.

Yeah, I know. Don't count your eggs before they're hatched, right?

I can't believe I'm wasting my summer thinking about school. And then I waste the latter half of the school year thinking of summer. Funny how that seems to work itself out.

Anyways, because fifties-inspired is so wonderful, "in", and oh-so flattering, I'm thinking/wishing for a dress more along the lines of a fifties prom silhouette. Strapless bodice, cinched waist, full skirt-- oh, goodness.

Here's kind of what I envisioned, although certainly not what I'll get.

betsey johnson, evening organza strapless dress, $450.

unlisted by kenneth cole, secret file platform pump, $29.99.
not necessarily these shoes, but just a sky-high, nude pump.

Add a couple strands of big pearls, hair pulled back into a loose low bun, and gold and pink tones on the eyes. And there, you've got yourself a look.

Envision it.

I hope I can make it happen. It's keeping me up at night.

"i'm forever yours... faithfully." insert me, swooning, here.

I don't have nearly the attention span I had yesterday, so just watch this video. It's one of my favorite songs ever. Like, seriously. If anyone were to ever serenade me with this, I'd probably swoon and insist they marry me. Yes, indeed.

Steve Perry's voice is so incredibly wonderful.

"Faithfully," by Journey.

Also, I love 80's slang, as of Saturday. Click here for one of my favorite sites. It's so entertaining. I wish people still talked like this.

welcome to the fifties, ladies.

Good grief, if there's anyone who's glad that the days of short, tight, and 'little left to the imagination' coming to an end, it's me. For one, it's never been attractive on me (I can't really pull off tough or biker girl), and two, the fifties were just so chic. I mean, full skirts, high-waisted silhouettes, belts... It's so classy.

Enjoy the pictures.

This is a super wonderful Vogue photo-story, featuring Natalia Vodianova and Ewan McGregor...

And costumes from "Hairspray" (2007). Even though the movie takes place in the early sixties, the costumes are still reminiscent of the good ol' days.
Oh, lordy. I want a Homecoming dress like Amber's.

And these! Cardigans, full skirts, soft prints, oh my!

It's time to break out the cardigans and ruffles. Feminine is finally back in style!

"and we'll be a dream..."

Here's some more pictures from Sunday afternoon...

We laughed for an hour at this one. It's almost ridiculous how perfect that curl is.
This is, hands down, one my favorites.

On Alaina--
Top: Alloy.
Shorts (unseen): American Eagle, tie-dyed by yours truly.
Clock Necklace: Good Will.
Belt (worn as necklace): Unknown.
Fedora: Claire's.
Glasses: Dazed and Confused. Found them under the seat in the rental car in California.

On Rachel--
Top: Alloy.
Jeans: Bullhead.
Locket: Forever21.
Small Chain Necklace: Her own.

These were taken prior to the "boys are really insensitive" incident. Basically, she called her boyfriend from my cell around six, so he knew she was at my house. And then when we got on my laptop, around nine, just before watching '300,' she asked to use my cell. When she came back, she was crying. Her boyfriend broke up with her. Over Facebook. When he knew she was at my house. For another girl. Ugh. How lame can they get? Insert eyeroll and frustration here.
In other news, I'm basically addicted to "We'll Be A Dream" by We The Kings ft. Demi Lovato. I never actually realized it was her until I watched the video. Figures.

What's your new favorite song?

I love my best friend.

Last night, my best friend stayed the night and, as promised, we took lots of pictures. One hundred and ninety-eight, to be exact, but only one hundred and seventy-four were posted to Facebook... My wonderful (eleven!) followers, you get to see the best ones. And the funny ones, but I'll save those for another post. The braces did make an appearance; everyone says I look cute with them. My mom says that they make my smile look really big, but I still think I look like a tweenie-bopper.

All smiles. Also, this is my back yard. We haven't done anything with it yet, so GIANT weeds have sprouted up that make a wonderful backdrop for taking pictures.
We laughed for hours at this one, because I managed to look like I was posing while appearing simultaneously clueless. Another friend also commented that I looked like I was trying to be French.
This is Rachel, my best friend ever. I love her to death.
I love her smile. And I was experimenting with the color settings and decided I didn't like 'black and white' so much as 'cyanotype.'
There's my car. And here's the Braces Twins.
One of my favorites of myself.

On Alaina--
Top: from a garage sale (75 CENTS!).
Skirt: Forever21.
Vest: Forever21 (see previous post).
Shoes: Deena and Ozzy, from Urban Outfitter's. I don't think you can see them in any of these shots, but they can be seen in some of the funny ones.
Fedora Hat: Claire's.

On Rachel--
Top: Gap.
Belt: Charlotte Russe.
Jeans: Bullhead, from PacSun.
Shoes: Charles Albert, from alloy.com.
Necklace: Her own.

I'll post some more of the good ones later.
